My name is David King and I am an artist living in Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex.

Primarily interested in portraiture, the main focus of my work is the human face and figure.

My influences are largely from the realist tradition.

My approach is based on observation. In depicting the presence of the subject, I am particularly interested in the effects of light on the face and figure.

I enjoy using a range of media, but mostly I employ oils, pastels, charcoal and conté crayon.

I hold a Diploma in Fine Art from MET Northbrook College, Worthing. My work has been shown in exhibitions in London, Brighton, Chichester, and Worthing.

I am a member of West Sussex Art Society and Adur Art Collective.

I come to painting after a career in English Language Teaching, holding an M.A. (TEFL) from Reading University.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, I am offering to paint portraits from photos for a minimum £50 donation to a charity of choice.

In normal times I work from life sittings and/or from photos.

I can travel a reasonable distance from Shoreham-by-Sea for a meeting to do preliminary sketches and take photos to work from in my own studio.

Portraits can also be commissioned from photos alone.

Prices are reasonable, depending on the size, medium and complexity of the picture.
